4 year old Bart was cooking dinner with his mom when a hurricane hit their village. The house collapsed, knocking Bart’s mother unconscious and throwing Bart into the cooking fire. A neighbor pulled them both out of the collapsed house and rushed him to Partner Haiti’s nurse Joel for help. We were able to coordinate with Haiti Air Ambulance and get him life-flighted to a burn unit where he stayed for several months. Bart lost the use of his left hand but he miraculously survived.

In rural Haiti the loss of limb use is detrimental, as most people rely on physical labor to survive. Bart’s family knows his options are limited, and in just a few years he would become a prime target for gangs to recruit.

Partner Haiti is committed to Bart and his family to ensure he gets to go to school, get a good education, and get food and medical care when he needs it.
